The scarf at the origin of Reach Out…

On 23 April 2016, I attended a fund raising event in Antwerp for a Taiko group whose valuable drums had been stolen. There I met Gerarda and Ernest from the No Péga Môn foundation who were selling handicrafts made by Bubaque locals. I bought the scarf that I am wearing on this picture.

It was the very first time I heard of this unknown African island and the deplorable situation of its inhabitants. Ernest and Gerarda’s endeavours to help Bubaque’s poor locals immediately struck my heart and, when later that year, I decided I would launch a sports-fundraising project as of my 60th birthday, I immediately knew the cause I wanted to support.
